Demolition Derby Ground Rules

 

1.       All drivers must be 18 years of age or older.  Younger contestants must hold a senior drivers license and have a notarized release signed by a parent or guardian.  Younger drivers will need photo ID.

2.      Pit passes will be issued only after signing a “Release from Liability” form.  Individuals under 16 are prohibited in the pit area.

3.      Unsportsman-like conduct and/or behavior will not be tolerated.

4.      Positively NO alcoholic beverages are permitted on grounds.  (All vehicles entering the pit area will be checked).

5.      No obscene gestures, words or graphics on cars and/or drivers.

6.      All cars must be removed from the grounds 2 hours after the completion of the Derby.

7.      All drivers must supply their own car.  No fresh cars allowed in the feature.

8.      You have a 60 second time limit to restart and make contact with an “alive” care.

9.      There will be security guards on duty with arresting authority.

10.  Demo cars must enter Carter Avenue entrance only.

11.  A driver’s meeting is mandatory for ALL drivers.

12.  There will be a $20.00 entrance fee for 1 (one) car and 1 (one) driver.  Additional cars are $20.00 each.

13.  There will be not protest allowed!  The Officials will inspect the last three cars running.  If you are caught cheating you will be disqualified for 1 (one) year.

 

 

Safety Instructions

 

1.       Any hardtop automobile (NO jeeps, trucks, limos, taxis, hearses or ambulances).  Also, no pre-1967 Chrysler Imperials and no 1971-76 full size leaf spring wagons.

2.      Compact Cars:  Any front wheel drive car except Buick Rivera’s,  Oldsmobile Tornado’s and Cadillac Eldorado’s.  Rear wheel drive cars must be 106 inches or less wheelbase.  Four (4) and six (6) cylinder only. Four-wheel drive cars must have front or rear drive shafts removed.

3.      The following must be removed:  all glass, gas tanks, all seats except driver’s seat, headlights, tail lights, all chrome, door handles, mirrors, sun visors, all loose items including broken glass.  All air bags must be removed.

4.      Doors and Trunks:  3-inch weld; 3-inch gap or 5/16 bolts in every 3 inches.  Bands no larger than one inch every six inches.  Driver’s door can be solid, if desired.  No welding to frame or bumpers. Hoods must have stock hinges in place and be able to open.  Six ˝ inch bolts, with no larger than a 3-inch washer will be used to hold hood down.  Hood must be secured by means other than stock latch.

5.      A 12-inch hole must be cut in hood for fire.  Too much cutting is not recommended.

6.      A steel bar or pipe may be mounted securely behind driver’s seat from doorpost to doorpost, (not to floor).  Steel bar or pipe may be mounted across the dash also (four-inch maximum).

7.      A 12-inch hole in trunk lid is mandatory for inspection.

8.      Battery and gas container must be separated by at least 5-feet and secured firmly in place.  Only one battery is permitted and must be covered.

9.      Radiators cannot be relocated.  May be banded with 2 bands to core support only.  Water only-no antifreeze.

10.  Only stock wheels can be used.

11.  Fender wells may be radiuses.  NO welding permitted.

12.  Vehicles must have hood in place.  Hood springs must be removed.

13.  Tires:  No chains are permitted.  15 inch maximum.  Wheels weights must be removed.  Only 15-inch tires-you may have a tire inside a tire, may put foam inside and can screw the tire to the rim.  NO CEMENT!

14.  No special bracing or reinforcing of suspension or body.  No seam welding on body of frame.  Frame must be stock.  No plating.  No fresh paint or undercoating inside care, underneath car or on frame.

15.  Bumpers must be stock, but may be cut to remove sharp edges.  Bumper shocks may be welded or bolted using on ˝-inch all thread.  No additional metal may be added.  Maximum bumper height is 22 inches to bottom.  Face may not be welded to reinforcement.

16.  Five gallons of gas maximum, in metal approved gas cans only!! No plastic tanks.  Metal gas lines should be run inside the car, no plastic lines.

17.  Drivers must wear approved safety helmets.  Face shield or goggles must be used.

18.  NO deliberate hitting on drivers door.

19.  Stay in car and do not loosen safety belt until event is over.

20.  No extra body mounts allowed.  Maximum ˝ diameter body mounts bolts.

21.  No spring hanger or shackles other than factory equipment.  Coil springs may be welded to rear end only.  No homemade shocks.  No relocating of shock mounts.

22.  After 2 fires in the same car, in the same event, the car will be disqualified.

23.  No team work (double teaming).

24.  No roll cages or roll bars permitted.

25.  No perpendicular supports, braces or anything that resemble reinforcement to frame chasses or body permitted.  Refer to rules #4 and #14.  Vertical support behind driver’s seat is permitted.  Bumpers cannot be welded to any sheet metal.

26.  Leaf springs:  maximum 9 per side including the main. Control arms may not be relocated.

27.  No pre-packs.

28.  No conversions.

 

Rules subject to change.  Officials have this right!  There will be no refund should you decide not to run your car or you are deemed unfit or illegal to run!
